This will be our first scrapbooking meeting of 2009! All new scouts will receive a new 12 x 12 album to dedicate to their American Heritage Girls memories. Please bring albums if you have one from scouts last year, any papers, stickers, etc. you'd like to share, and any photos you may have. No worries though, if you have no photos, we can teach you how to still make a page without photos and add them at a later time!
9 - Deadline to reserve a spot for ice skating on 1/18/09. Please tell Miss Lesa by phone or email how many in your family are going and if you need any rentals or "walkers" to help little ones. She will pass out envelopes at our next meeting on 1/12/09.

Tonight, HM1 Curtis Thaxton & HM1 Felipe Rios will be joining us to teach us about ways of germ-fighting that they use in their clinic on base. We will use this important information to kick-start the beginning of a new badge about Personal Hygiene.

Miss Lesa is generously planning a fun evening of fellowship. She'll be letting us all know what each family can bring for a traditional turkey dinner. Our beautiful cakes and cupcakes will be served for dessert. Instead of Christmas gifts, we'll be having an eco-friendly raffle for your Island of Misfit Toys. Please bring an unwanted toy/game/stuffed animal, etc. from home for each child that would like to participate in the raffle. Think of it as the ultimate in regifting and recycling!

Join us for an informative afternoon on demonstrations by Mystic River Ambulance, Mystic Fire Department and Stonington Police Department. We'll have a special demonstration from Stonington's first officer/canine duos: Officer Howard and Fritz!

Explorers will be finishing up Native American Badge by making kachina dolls. Tenderfoot scouts will be working on the Toys & Games badge and should bring a doll to the meeting.

If your family would like to follow the parade to the party afterwards, there is one at the Pawcatuck VFW following the parade. Scouts, please dress in full uniform (khaki bottoms, white shirt, vest, neckerchief) and wear sunscreen. Also bring a bottle of water.

Join us for a special meeting where we will work on our Zoology badge. This trip will count for requirement #3 for Tenderfoot Scouts and requirement #8 for Explorer Scouts. Please send $8 for this class along with your scout. Please dress warmly, ready to get muddy and bring a flashlight if you have one. Class description: Put your tracking skills to the test and see who is walking about in the winter. Learn the difference between squirrel tracks and crow tracks, learn how to differenciate between feline and canine tracks. We will walk our trails looking for tracks and traces, then we will talk about the animals, who made them while we have a snack. We'll also be making an animal track cast!

Pancake Breakfast
Please save the date to assist us for our very first Pancake Breakfast. Set-up will be Friday, April 4, 2008. The breakfast will be Saturday, April 5, 2008. Shifts will be approximately 6AM-10AM or 8Am-12PM. Families will receive tickets to sell prior to the day. Ticket sales will provide us with invaluable funds to purchase food with, as well as a more accurate idea of numbers. Flyers to hang around town are available. Thank you for your help in making this event a success!
